We're not addicted to hiking.
But we do crave adventure. And these days hiking is how we get our fix.
As part of our 50 hikes goal, we also signed up for the #sixpackofpeaks challenge and had one more to go. We figured we nab it in style and catch a sunrise from the top of Baden-Powell ????
The alarm went off at 12:30 so we could be on the trail at 3am under headlamps. ???? Hiking at night is actually quite peaceful. Your whole world is in that light so you don't get too concerned about what's way in front or behind you. It reinforces the importance of staying in the moment.
We summited at 5:35 and had just enough time to put on a pot of coffee and watch the sun slowly crawl out of the ground. I've certainly had my share of sunrises, but this one was by far the most well earned. ????
Starting your descent down a 9,400′ peak when the rest of the world is still sound asleep is surreal. Our 34th hike of the year covered 8.5 miles and 2,800′ of bleary eyed blissful elevation. ????????
For those that are curious, here are our Six Peaks:
– Sitton Peak
– Strawberry Peak
– San Jacinto Mountain
– Ontario Peak
– Sawmill Peak
– Baden Powell
Wow, that certainly deserves a bottle of very good Cabernet! ????
