We drove past the trailhead entrance 3 times before spotting it between the brush. We started our hike just after 10 am under a partly cloudy sky. The trail is quite muddy and our boots became heavy with the accumulation of a thick mud pack. This lasted until we got to the fence and started the steeper climb up to the ridge. A friendly dog named Patch joined us us had fun running and playing with our friends’ dog. We had expansive views of the valleys. Wildflowers we’re in bloom. We spotted quite a few familiar varieties, but were most surprised to see small pincushion cacti with bright pink blooms. On the way down the trail had dried enough that the mud was not an issue. We did the hike in just under 3 hours.
