Good day for a hike, at least we thought.  A bit cloudy, some sun driving the roads to Greylock.  A good mid-60s day ….until!

Word of advice!  Some of the trails are not well-marked at the bottom of the trailheads.  We made a few wrong turns, but luckily, it did not put us too far off course.  We made an adventure of it and an additional .5 miles with some obstacle climbing and elevation to traverse.  Once back on track, the Gould trail up to the peak is relentless.  Steady climbs to get the lungs pumping, but nothing that we aren't used to.

The peak!  Never been to the top of Greylock, but looks like a great place to see the mountain ranges stretch across MA and beyond.  War memorial, maps, visitor centers, lodge, etc. are all great additions to make a stay of it up top.  Not on this day!  Winds were howling, clouds running through fast, temperature about 15 degrees cooler than the trails and the starting point.  Could have used gloves, a winter hat and some smores!  Short stay, some cloudy pictures and off we were.  A little mishap trying to find Thunderbolt (my fault), as went back down the wrong side of the Appalachian Trail to get to Thunderbolt.  Gave us another added elevation climb and some more air to the lungs.  Finally found Thunderbolt and the views were amazing, as it was clearer on that elevation and on that side of the mountain.  Thunderbolt has some steep points, so be cautious and slow with your steps.

Good trails, good climbs, good views (when not cloudy) and good company.  3 hrs 40 min up and around on Gould to Thunderbolt to Bellows Pipe to Gould.  On to the bigger, badder NE hills.
