We got to the Red Box Picnic Area at about 7:15 a.m. to hike Strawberry Peak and there were still a few parking spots on the side with the toilets and several on the other side of the driveway into the picnic area. It was full when we made it back after our hike with vehicles parking along the street and up the road. The hike started warm and temperatures continued to climb as we climbed the well-known steep false peaks on this trail. It was a bit of a hazy day and it was a bit buggy for my liking, but we were still rewarded with beautiful views of the San Gabriel Mountains once at the top. We were lucky to reach the summit where we were the only ones there for a little bit and then we were bombarded with a couple of larger groups, some who lacked hiking etiquette. Strawberry Peak is the highest summit in the front range of the San Gabriel Mountains at 6,165 feet. This was our 3rd peak for the 6-Pack of Peaks of the 2023 year. Last year, we hiked this peak in March and it was a bit more enjoyable with cooler weather and less people.

Hi Dave! I haven’t log a few we’ve done, but we’re supposed to do our last one next weekend! Nice hearing from you!
