Beautiful hike with nice weather. Cloud cover before the saddle going out and a gentle mist coming back. Past the saddle we had sunshine most of the way. Though the summit was sunny there was a bank of clouds as far as you could see West. Kinda cool looking just the same. There were numerous short snow crossings that were not icy nor hard manage.
Short of the summit we managed to get lost. We did not read up enough on the route (my fault) to know to continue past the signless signpost for the direct route to the summit. Instead we continued on the trail left towards Etiwanda Peak. After a bit the trail started to disappear on us and that's when Gaia GPS came to the rescue! I had just downloaded it for the first time the day before. It worked like a charm and I was able to navigate us to the correct Peak. Minor detour :-/
Parking:
Like they say, it fills fast on the weekends! We arrived at 6:45am and there were only about 5 spots left.
(Post note: we arrived a week later at 7:15 to hike Baldy and all of the lots were full with cars funneling down the mountain on all sides of the streets)
