Starting at the Trail Canyon Trailhead, the Mummy Mountain hike was a total 9.3 miles and approximately 4000 ft of elevation gain. While there is no connection to the burials of ancient Egyptians, the weather certainly made it seem like we had robbed an ancient tomb of its treasures and were cursed. The forecast was sunny with a high of 56 degrees Fahrenheit. For the first 3 miles, roughly past the scree, it felt warm in the sunlight. After the scree the breeze picked up and we added on layers to keep warm. By the time we reached the summit it had started snowing, then rained on the way back down. The trail was in great condition until the last mile or so ahead of the chute before the summit. That last portion was covered in snow and requires careful traversing. The views were breathtaking throughout the entire hike! The summit provided views of the entire Charlston area (you could see Charlston, Fletcher, and Griffith peaks) and partial views of the Las Vegas Valley in the distance. Definitely worth the weather curse we received from the mummy we climbed.
