On my way to the mountain and not too far from the park entrance, I saw a baby black bear on the hill of the left side of the road, and I stopped just in time to get a blurry picture through the rear window after it just crossed the road and about to into the woods on the right side of the road! Due to the threat of the upcoming thunderstorms in the early afternoon, I first took the old Mitchell trail to the summit, and then later on after the weather stabilized hiked much of the mount Mitchell trail from the black mountain campground area.
