WOW. This trail was absolutely beautiful. The conditions were incredible weather wise, we got started slightly after 7 AM. The trail was easy enough to follow. I had on me my All Trails app (free version) on airplane mode and I was able to keep track along the way there were only two forks where I had to pull it out and find the right path. Although, I have since upgraded to the Pro version 🙂 The first stretch up to the Saddle was incredibly pleasant. I enjoyed walking through the trees, along the streams and on the rocks. However, the Saddle itself is not the best rest stop. The winds blow incredible hard and cold through that area. If you were to walk slightly further, you'd be much better off resting elsewhere. The remaining half of the trail was the most strenuous with plenty of switchbacks and some thin trails which could have been easy to slide down if an unfortunate slip or trip occurred (be cautious). Also, keep your eyes peeled for the beautiful bright red “snow plant” when you initially spot it, it appears so misplaced and mysterious but it is quite a pleasant sight. Hope you enjoy your hike up to Cucamonga Peak as much as I did!
