Did my first of six peaks this morning – Bishops Peak in San Luis Obispo. Beautiful day following a night of light rain. Parking is limited to residential street and hike to trailhead could be uphill on street. I'm familiar with this hike as I live nearby and its relatively easy to visit. Located on the outskirts of town, Bishops is one of the 9 sisters, a series of ancient volcano domes that start in the nearby Pacific ocean. Trail is in good shape, a little sloppy at the start as it is mostly shady but as one circumnavigates the peak the trail is dry. Plan on a stair-steppy hike over purposely place rock step as the trail winds through bouldery outcrops. Great early morning hike that can be busted out in an hour or two. You will have to do some boulder scrambling at the top. Plan on lingering on the top to take in the great 360 degree views. Traffic on trail is light early but will pickup as the morning winds on. Space on top is tight so beating the crowds is something to consider. (Interesting note: Mission San Luis Obispo is located in middle of town. Bishops Peak is a historical name that has origins and associations to Junipero Serra and his founding of the Catholic Missions in California). Do
