Starting from Baldy Village makes for a great hike to the summit, especially cutting the mountain driving to Manker Flats.
Panoramic views of other local peaks and on clear days, awesome views of Mt San Gorgonio and Mt San Jacinto plus Mt Wilson Observatory along the upper portion of Bear Canyon Trail.
It was freezing cold @ the summit with gale winds. Most hikers stayed for a short time then headed back down.
For those repeat Challengers, I would strongly recommend taking Bear Canyon Trail to the summit – it is about a 13-mile round-trip trek with 5,740’ of elevation gain.
