I chose a day that would be relatively cool and I started early in the morning (7:30 am) because I thought this hike would be hard work. Uphill all the way, especially the first 2.5 miles up a steep narrow trail with lots of switchbacks. When the trail merges with the fire road the trail eases up somewhat, but I still found it a hard slog. There were some pesky bugs but not too too bad, and it was cool when I reached the peak at 10:30 with a nice breeze. There was quite a few flowers in bloom especially at the higher elevations. The views from the top were spectacular, but unfortunately it was a little hazy so the far distance was not very sharp.
I seemed to have the mountain all to myself as I didn't meet another person all day long and only caught a glimpse of the ranger 45 ft above me in the observation platform.
I was stoked to hike this trail as it was the last peak I needed to climb as part the San Diego Six Pack of Peaks Challenge
