Peak #6: Mt Bachelor
Yesterday I completed the Central Oregon Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge. I'm glad I found this group. Jeff, the founder of the organization, and all of the members have been very supportive. Yesterday morning, I hit Mt Bachelor (the 6th largest ski resort in the country). As I approached the mountain I noticed it was covered in a light haze of smoke. Fortunately, after hiking for about 45 minutes and gaining a little elevation, I was above the smoke layer and it was fairly clear. Hiking up a ski resort was a little odd. You pass by and under many lifts, cross a few access roads, and see lots of grassy runs. There's a dedicated trail to follow though with many forested areas. At the very top, it was super windy and very cold. I'm glad I brought gloves and a beanie. I also got lucky. The mountain tops in the Three Sisters Wilderness were just peaking through the smoke. This didn't last long and I felt fortunate that I at least got a view.
