This is going to be a little tough to write. A week after this my girlfriend, who was the one to get me interested in this challenge, ended our relationship. This hike was the last thing we did together, so logging it is pretty bittersweet.
It was a good day, though. The weather was pleasant, especially since most of the trail is in the woods. It wasn’t nearly as difficult as Mt Diablo had been, and there were some great spots to check out the scenery. It is always a little weird, though, when you spend hours hiking only to be met at the top by a large group of tourists who had driven up.
One piece of advice is that if you’re going to do Umunhum on a busy day start early. The parking lot at the trailhead fills quickly, and we ended up having to hike to it from a lower parking lot. It added 3.5 miles to our day.
So now I’ve completed two of the peaks, but I’m hoping I can find ways to do the remaining ones. It’s a lot tougher to do without the person I’d hoped to complete this with. It's a lot tougher to do without the person I'd hoped to complete this with, and I will need to find new hiking buddies to do the rest of the peaks with. But I’m optimistic that I will finish this. I’m stubborn and resourceful. And I know that even though we’re not together anymore, we both will be cheering each other on to finish what we’ve started.
