My first run up Mailbox Peak. My friends and I took the old trail up and the new trail down. We decided to slip on some MicroSpikes once we reach the slushy snow-covered area before the boulder field. They were life-savers! The old trail is steep and unforgiving on the way up, but not dangerous if you're conditioned and careful. The top fourth of the trail is still snow-covered, but beautiful. Unfortunately, our summit view was limited due to cloud cover and we started down after about 15 minutes at the top because it was cold and windy. I definitely recommend packing gloves, MicroSpikes, layers, snacks, water and possibly some shades (snow is bright!). I enjoyed this hike! The air was fresh and the trees were beautiful. It was a challenge, but I delivered my mail in the end 🙂
