We started our ascent around 11 a.m. after chatting with the hikers in the parking lot who'd already finished. We like our sleep.
Maggie May (dog), Bob (human) and I (furless sasquatch) ambled our way up the mountain, taking many breaks along the many switchbacks. We saw various birds that we wished we could identify, heard chipmunks as they scrambled around in the brush, and saw a bit of bear scat (so I guess they do after all, you know).
The air was crisp, and we enjoyed several cool breezes as we appreciated the stunning views this hike offers. The summit was a bit windy, and we were grateful that we brought our flannels and jackets so we could enjoy lunch at the top. We wore those on our way down, too, because the air temperature was dropping, not quickly, but enough that we appreciated another layer.
This hike is always a lovely escape from the L.A. heat. Onward and upward!
