I have only hiked to San Bernardino peak once before, and I remember being woefully unprepared. Also, my memory of the trail seems to have been a little different than the actual trail!
The first mile was difficult and I could not figure out why. Though this time I was prepared with extra food and electrolytes. For a cool minute there I thought I was going to have to turn around, but I rallied pretty quickly. I did notice that I am hiking faster than I used to, but because I was hiking with a group I was also taking breaks for the others to catch up. We all summited the peak relatively closer to each other time wise, and I made sure to communicate via Walkie Talkie.
Aside from going to the summit, the group checked out the view from the Washington Monument. I knew it was there, however I never knew what it represented.
Of course the trail was beautiful, especially through John's Meadow. I still want to try this hike from Forsee Creek so that I can summit East San Bernardino peak, but maybe that will be a challenge for next year. Or better yet .. the 9 Peak Challenge later this year (before the snow starts to fall in the San Gorgonio Wilderness).
