Pulling into the parking lot the daunting superstitions loomed to the south. Just before 0800 and the sun was beginning to crest rays past the highest peaks as we kicked through the well established trail with loose rock. The steady incline became steeper as we approaches the monolith to the right and entered the canyon with a crisp peacefulness. Lots of greenery with trees and brush, dozens of speedy lizards. Many hikers were taking wrong turns and doubling back…suggest you review and keep handy a copy of the directions on which direction to veer when the path gets confusing. We made it to the top of the basin for a snack before deciding that continuing was not in the cards for us. We enjoyed the hike down, being cautious of the slick, loose rock underfoot. It is a beautiful mountain and canyon with many other hikes as well. Last stop was the ranger station to pick up a patch…probably should have got the sticker that said “I failed flatiron” lol. Another great hike with my sister, neighbor, best friend, hiking partner!
