This is a beautiful, though Rocky, trail. I set out with the goal of only getting to Wellman's Divide. I hiked with my wife and her friend, both girls are in much better shape than me. We had radios and so at the top of Devil's Slide, I told them to go and summit. They were off and I was there to test my endurance. Several times, I checked in with my wife letting her know when I got to a notable sign. I was surprised that I wasn't too far behind. I had gotten my stride, slow as it was, but didn't need to stop to rest often. When I did need to, I only paused for a moment and caught my breath. Then I forced my tired legs to take baby steps. Soon, I was back to my regular stride. My two hiking buddys were faster, but would break more often. I wasn't too far behind. By the time I reached Wellman's Divide, they still hadn't summited, so I kept going. I was only an hour behind them by the time they got to the summit. They were able to cheer me on until I made it! I found my pace and hiking style that day!
