I was really happy that the Six Pack of Peaks Challenge added the six San Diego hikes this year.  That gave me the opportunity to do some new hikes in San Diego County where I lived my whole life and still finish the Six Pack of Peaks with the Big Three Peak Challenge hikes.  I have been hiking with a friend who is getting started hiking, so the San Diego hikes were more achievable for him.  For this hike I talked him into join me in reserving rooms in Julian so we could hike Cuyamaca in the morning, then have our wives come up for the 4th of July, and then we hiked Volcan Mtn.  We had heard the road to Cuyamaca was closed, so we planned to take the longer Azalea Loop trail.  However, when we got there we found the construction on the road was stopped for the weekend, and we went right up.  We took the trail down to the Azalea Loop for a little variety.  When we got back to the trail head, we had a few hours left before check-in time, and we had paid the big $10 day use fee.  I talked my friend into doubling on Stonewall Peak right across the road from the parking lot.  I had hiked both peaks before, but not as a double.
