Took the recommended hike from Chantry Flats. The morning was crisp and cold at 43 F. Kept all my 4 layers on throughout, including gloves and beanie and only briefly took one layer off at the summit. Saw a bear on the way down, just below Hogees Camp, a flock of about 40 to 50 Band-tailed pigeons flew out from atop the tree canopy to break the silence in the canyon, that was really cool. Had only one hiccup on the trail, a sharp switchback we missed just past the Cascade Picnic area as we hiked up. My quadriceps were burning and hurting once we reached the top, I think for the next peak I'll get hiking poles. Awesome hike!
