This is a great winter hike, when the sun is low and temperature is cool. I saw only a handful of people on the trail, all in the lower part between the trailhead and backpacker's camp. The climbs are not overly steep, but there is up-and-down the whole way, meaning you are still climbing at the end on tired legs. But it was a gorgeous day, and I saw a bobcat, large coyote, and deer. And cows, who seem to be “aiming” for the trail. (Step carefully.)
