It’s been a year and a half since my last hike here. Today was very appropriate to go this route for Memorial weekend. I have other title for this hike as well but what I chose was more relatable????
Normally the trail is clear with obstacles, just the incline and the elevation that I have to deal with. This weekend there were a handful of fallen trees along the trail. The first one was I had to go under it, next was to go through it, another one was to go around it and the last one was over it. A perfect refresher for prepositions lesson????????
With a lot of hikers that day, felt like it was an obstacle course. There was also an encounter with a rattle snake about a mile or so from the peak on our way down.
The frustrating part was when other hikers were taking shortcuts and created those cuts between switchbacks. Probably also caused the weakening of the used to be stable root syatem pf aome trees. On a couple occassions I have to tell them that’s not the trail. One male adult even let his kid, about 7-8yo to cut the switchback with no visible trail even. Probably fun for them and not even thinking about safety and damage it can cause to the trail… sigh.
I loved that a lot of young kids were also energetically hiking. A small group we encountered was thinking they were heading to Big Horn Mine and decided to ask after over 2 miles up. We saw them at the peak at some point so I guess they already decided to continued on.
With all of the above we were still blessed with a very nice weather and had our post hike meal at the best pizza in Wrightwood????
