My wife and I started out at Red Box. We passed the Strawberry Peak trailhead and headed through Strawberry Meadows to loop around and peak from the west side up the rock face. Another hiker referred to the west side as the mountaineer approach to the peak. I didn't fully understand that description until we reached the rock face. If not for other hikers assuring us we were heading in the correct direction and the Gaia GPS app, I would have thought we were lost. lt felt like we were doing some trailblazing. The arrows on the rocks suggesting the best way up helped. The rock climbing was unexpected and not exactly my thing since I'm afraid of heights, but I wasn't about to go back around to summit from the east side. The strawberries mentioned in another hiker's log for the same day were not there when we were at the peak. I did talk to a group of hikers going up when we were heading down. They shared that they were going to celebrate with strawberries when they reached the peak, so I suspect they decorated the tree. It was a beautiful day for an adventure-filled hike.
