The day started sunny and very warm:which is unusual for this time of year. We decided to hike Chimney Pond to Hamlin Ridge to enjoy the views while the weather was nice as there were thunderstorms predicted for the afternoon. Hamlin Pond was a challenging hike but it was worth the views. We summited Hamlin Peak and made our way to Baxter Peak. The clouds had moved in and the views were nonexistent from the summit. Because of the weather, we decided to head down Saddle Trail to get out of the weather. That was an interesting decent!
The storm caught us as we were back on Chimney Pond and the lightening sent us into the woods to hunker down under cover for about 15 minutes of wild and wooly weather. We finished up a little damp, but happy to be back at the base. The last couple miles was shared with some really nice folks from Virginia.
