Started at 5:30am on a Friday, car park empty, dark cold but fun, we ascended up through the darkness hearing water roar to our right for the first few miles then just silence up to Icehouse saddleback. The hike was perfect as it soon warmed a little as the sun came up and from the Icehouse saddle back up to the peak it was a nice temperature and partly in the shade, the last 2 miles was challenging as part of the trail had some recent rock slide but nothing major, just be very careful.
The peak was clear as a bell, and only two other hikers there, fantastic views over the valley with Mount Baldy behind us. The was no wind or bugs when there around noon, stayed for about an hour then headed back down. A great hike and in my opinion slightly harder than Mount Baldy even though Baldy is higher.
Note: getting a Cucamonga day hiking permit via the Parks website was very quick and efficient and you will need a adventure pass too.
Happy hiking
