The trail tribe kicked off season 6 with the 6 pack of peaks challenge. Volcan Mountain is the first of the six. Fourteen trail tribers came out for the hike, including our first junior hiker, Elle McNeil.
It was a beautiful sunny, clear day. The main trail up through the oak and pine grove was beautiful and a moderate climb. Once we reached the summit, the views were 360 degrees from the mountains to the desert to the ocean. We could see the Salton Sea as well as Cataline Island from the lower summits. We had a nice gathering at the summit picnic bench, where we had our tea & coffee. The wind was strong and very cold at the top so we didn't spend too much time there before getting to our descent. We took the nice side single track trail on the way down.
This was a nice, easy first hike of the six pack of peaks.
