One for the books for our TRAILS Y TRAGANDO crew!
6 of us met at 6:30am / 5 met at 7:30 / 3 no shows
Never try a “shortcut” or “an adventure”! lol stick to the trail map – (and make sure everyone in your group has it too!)
Personally I LOVED Strawberry Peak. It was a great idea that we met at 6:30am as Jenesis, Niobe and I were able to see the sunrise while we waited for the Padillas to arrive. 6 of us did the 1st mile together until the point where we came upon the Firebreak leading up to Mt Lawlor (AKA – “the shortcut” lies Jenesis!) Only Lalo made it up and we didn't see him again until summit!
Fab 5 marched on, making up silly songs along the way (Countdown has just begun, let's shout it out who's number 1!). As we were on the 1.5 mile rock-climbing portion of this hike we spotted Cheryl and Miriam below us. Jenesis needed first aid services when she was stabbed by “POKEY THINGS on the left” and started bleeding (My kit to the RESCUE!) We saw an 8 month preggo woman coming down while we were going up (damn KUDDOS! WOMEN ARE SO DAMN STRONG!).
At the peak summit sitting shenanigans ensued when Marisa just took over prime spots… PINTO TACHA will now be heard on our HIKES… Cheryl and Miriam arrived and told us they hiked with The Acuñas for about 10 minutes but hadn't seen them since. Lalo was eventually spotted by Jenesis on his way to summit (HUGE YAY!). Turns out “shortcut” added an extra 2 miles for him to get there. Eventually through random texts we got one that the Acuñas headed back, so we decided to start our trek back too.
The way back down was slooowww as we were very cautious climbing down the rocks. Natalia hiked back with Cheryl and Miriam who saw the Acuñas in the parking lot. Turns out Pichin and Frida wanted “an adventure” so they took the Firebreak leading up to Mt Lawlor. It took them 3 hours to go up and down the firebreak (along with lots of spills, scrapes and anxiety attacks!) that once they were done Ricardo decided to head back to the parking lot!
I met up with Cheryl and Natalia in the lot as we waited for the rest of our group. Marisa fell in the last 1/4 mile! We had our post hike tragadera at the Acuñas!
It wasn't too hot, hike was challenging because of the loose gravel and trekking up and down rocks. Hiking poles were a MUST for me.
Fun times Indeed!
