Treacherous Turtlehead is what I'm going to call this trail. Looks can be deceiving with a lot of scrambling and uncertainty of the marked (unmarked) markers on the rocks leading up to the peak. We definitely had to use the AllTrails app to navigate to the peak. To power up to the peak, you use every once of energy and calorie reserved. I made the mistake of starting a meal plan that eliminated carbs, sugar, and dairy right before this hike. I powered though barely on hardly any calories, so please do yourself a favor and carb up the night before and the morning of.
The weather was beautiful at 8am in the morning until about 9am then heat started to turn up a notch. That's what you get for hiking in the desert in August. I'm going to try this trail again when it cools down and I have enough calories to power through. It was a heavily trafficked trail especially in August, but if you're going to try in the Summer go super early in the morning right before sunrise.
I felt completely depleted, yet the trail was so worth the effort and determination. This was a mentally and physically challenging, but I won't let that stop me from doing it again.
