Based on past experience, we started early (730 AM) to avoid potential heat and carried a bit more water than usual, but it was no problem. A thick marine layer had pretty much wet down the trail and we actually got soaked on the way up just pushing through the single track. The trail was in good shape but everything was so wet it was leaning into and across the trail. It was actually a bit windy ascending and we did not linger at the top. Taking the fire road down, it started to clear and warm up. We saw a very lazy gopher snake in the trail. We were well past any peak wildflower blooms, but the monkey flowers, wood mint and pitcher sage were still in bloom.
