Driving up from SoCal to the Bay Area and decided I’d do a couple of hikes. Planned on doing Gaviota, but since that’s currently closed, I decided Grass Mountain sounded easy enough. Yup, completely underestimated the sheer incline, especially that last half mile or so! It is very similar to climbing Turtlehead Peak in the Vegas challenge, or Mount Sizer in the Bay Area challenge… if you only did the shortcut… and doubled it! Also, nowhere did I read that there was a stream to cross! Luckily you can rock hop across and I don’t see the water level rising any time soon. Either way, very beautiful hike, but very hot and exposed! I could only imagine how this must’ve looked in April when the poppies were blooming! As much as I struggled with this hike, I thought I would need to pass on my second hike, but I managed to complete the hike in 2 hours 48 minutes, so I foolishly decided “on to SLO!”
