Did this hike 2 years ago and it was much tougher this time than I remember! Also, I'm a little more out of shape than before.
Managed to convince my boyfriend and friend who is an avid hiker of doing this challenge and took up Turtle Head Peak as the first hike!
It is getting much hotter now, started at 10am and it was already in mid 70's, hit mid 80's by the time we finished at 1pm. Luckily, there was a nice breeze in the beginning and on the way back down, the gusts must have hit 20mph. I think the mountain was trying to kick us off!
Trail conditions included loose gravel on steep uphill so recommend trail runners or hiking with good soles.
Trails are now well marked with white spray painted arrows and dots and caged rock stands. 2 years ago they did not have this.
Also encountered a rattlesnake on a bush right next to the trail. Another trail runner passerby also encountered one. Be wary!
Glad to get this one out of the way and move on to the other peaks in Mt. Charleston! If you're starting the challenge, get this one out of the way soon cause summer is right around the corner!
