Started earlier this time at 8:30 expecting a little “easier” trail than Fletcher Peak. Boy, were we wrong! The trail for the first mile and a half was clearly marked and was very encouraging. The trail after that point is almost like putting together a thousand piece puzzle of Bryce Canyon. If not for the red, white, and green dots and arrows, we would have made MORE wrong turns. One thing we learned though is green dots are good and red dots are bad! We made summit in 3 hours, view was gorgeous but not as breath taking as the Mt. Charleston Wilderness. Someone stole the summit logbook and the USGS bench mark, why would people do that? After some snack, we headed down trying not to get lost again by following the dots and arrows. Again we made the bad assumption that downhill will be quicker. Boy, were we wrong again! The trail was gravelly and dangerously loose! On top of that, we lost sight of the green dots so we ended up following the red ones! And that was when we realized that not all dots were created equal. Red dots BAD! Took us to all the difficult trails it seemed. Made it down before 3:30 pm. We’re glad we’re done with Turtlehead peak, we did not enjoy that!
