It was cold.  We started at 9:00am at the Nordic base station and it was 38 degrees.  The plan was to hike to both Mt. Pinos and Sawmill Mountain.  While at Mt. Pinos we met fellow Six Pack of Peakers, Denise and Carrina, who told us about the 3-2-1 Hike challenge and so our plans changed.

The trail was fairly clear with only a few patches of snow to cross.  It was very windy at Sawmill so we quickly left there and head off to find Grouse Mountain.  The Chumash Wilderness is just stunning.  The additional hike to Grouse Mountain was fairly challenging but overall very doable.  We met more Six Pack of Peak hikers there who taught us some really fun photography tricks.

Over the entire hike we encountered less than 10 other hikers.  This trail is not heavily trafficked like many of the others can be.  I can remember when just Mt. Pinos was part of the Six Pack of Peaks.  The addition of Sawmill made it a much more challenging hike.  If you add Grouse mountain you will find it better still.
