Left the house just before dawn as I live a ways from the trail with the hopes of getting up and off the trail before it got too hot. The dogs were so excited and sat up and looked out the windows the whole drive. Their ears perked up as we drove past the loose cattle on the Oak Savannah. Saw a beautiful coyote stalking a critter amongst the cattle. Started out on the trail around 7:00 a.m. Tons of bugs, even the dogs were flicking their ears and occasionally rubbing a paw on their face. Once on the ridge there was a nice breeze and no more bugs. Love the manzanita, white sage and oak savannah. There was plenty of shady spots on the trail. Took my time and strolled up and back down. The dogs shared 2 liters of water for themselves. Was off the trail by 9:30; temp was 89*F. The dogs napped all the way home and are happy and content.
