Climbed Griffith Peak on my way up to Charleston Peak.  Considered doing Mummy Mountain as well, but would all depend on how I felt by the time I reached the second summit. I was still recovering from a pretty serious leg injury in July and had only done two easy 3 mile hikes and an easy 7 miler since then. I knew I was not quite in my best shape and still unsure of what my leg could handle, but I was in town for 5 days and actually had a shot to complete this challenge during that time, so off I went!

I felt great during the first mile, a little winded at first, but the cold air helped me out.  That second mile, however, started to kick my butt!  It got a little easier over the next couple miles of switchbacks, but only slightly, as I started to feel the elevation.  As I neared the junction at the top I could see what looked like an almost straight up climb to the top of Griffith Peak. I was definitely winded and struggling, so I stopped o and had a quick sandwich, drank some water and ate some candy.  After about 5-10 minutes, I felt ready to continue. After all, it’s only .4 miles to the top. How bad could it be?  The answer is pretty bad. It was very steep, with some itty bitty switchbacks that looked more like someone unsuccessfully trying to walk a straight line after a night of celebrating, but they did manage to break up the climb just enough.  I made it to the top and enjoyed amazing views in all directions. I had a clear view ow the Mount Charleston summit about 4 miles away, so I gathered myself and carefully made my way back down the trail and continued onto the second summit!
