We accidentally passed the lower parking and ended up at the summit parking lot. We had already walked up the last flights of steps to the summit by the time we realized what had happened so we did this peak hike in reverse.
We walked down to the Bald Mountain parking lot which was a nice gradual slope under cool shade. From that lot, we walked to Bald Mountain where we finally turned around and headed up Mount Umunhum to catch the real challenge… hiking up on the second half of the day instead of the first half.
It was pleasant with several families and friend groups hiking up and down as well.
A great starter hike for the 6 Peak Bay Area challenge.
Fun Fact: The name Umunhum means the resting place of the hummingbird which comes from the Amuh Mutsun band of Ohlone’s creation story.
