Did this with a couple friends for my birthday weekend. I hiked it a couple years ago, but that day was raining and overcast, so I hadn’t seen the view from up there yet. It was spectacular! I knew it would be good, but even so I was pleasantly surprised.
What was also a bit surprising was how much snow there was on the mountain. We saw a first small dusting and cracked a few jokes about how we’d need our microspikes. The further up we went the more the trails and trees were covered. The trees were especially neat because they froze over and were melting, causing them to shed ice as we passed under them. The radio tower at the top was shedding even more snow and ice, making ominous but interesting noises. Overall, it made me feel some nostalgia for my childhood hiking northern New England in the spring.
At the top we watched some friendly looking clouds roll in, then headed back down. The side of the mountain that had been covered by clouds cleared up, and we were able to see any views we had missed in the way up. It was a fun, beautiful day.
