This was a great hike as well a difficult one (at least for me). Perfect day, started at 8am summit by noon. Lots of folks on the trail throughout the day. Once you get to the snow/ice fields there is no marked trail, however it was easy to see where people had been or were going. The incline is consistent the entire way – the rock / boulder field is more forgiving than St Helens, but again that elevation gain can be an ass kicker.
lots of groups at Camp Muir preparing to overnight for summit. Space was a little limited.
glissading back down the snow, was probably the highlight of the day.
6.5 hours active, start to finish. 8 hours w breaks, views and lunch.
well worth it!
