We started just as the sun was rising. The parking lot was dark and the breeze was very chilly. Most of us in the group had only slept three hours the night before ,We had left Bakersfield, Ca at 3:30am. As we awaited a little more light from the sun we went over our safety procedures if anyone was to get hurt, fall behind, or Sick. We established our projected time to get to the summit and back down to the parking lot. We also went over a plan in case the weather turned for the worse. This was the day right before a snow storm was due. The truth is though, we could not have picked a better day to summit. The whole hike up was sunny and welcoming. This being my first time hiking a 10’ Mountain; i really took my time so that I wouldn’t get sick. The summit was a bit cold that day but there were clear skies and views for miles. My favorite part of the whole trail was the decent down The Devils Backbone.
