We arrived at the parking area right at 8am as I know the place gets packed on weekends. We decided to do most of the hard work early so we took the loop in a clockwise route. This was a great choice as it meant less people and a fairly buttkickin strenuous uphill to the summit but it was worth it for the shade and the easy descent in the 2nd half. The poppies and wildflowers are starting to bloom and it was a gorgeous day for a hike. Perfect weather. We completed 14 miles in a little under 8 hours (including a rest at the top with food and gatorade from the store in the visitors center).
