Oh Mylanta!
I don't think I have had such a hard time on the trail before. We started early as I am sure most of you know the San Diego peaks are woefully exposed and within the first 1.5 miles I was sweating bullets!! It got soo bad that the sweat was beading into my eyeballs and it stung. Every step felt excruciating, but I couldn't bring myself to turn around. I took food breaks, electrolyte breaks and anytime I started to feel bad I would take a seat in whatever shade I could find. I have a sneaking suspicion that EVERYTHING kicked in by the time we got to the summit because I felt great there.
This is definitely a trail that you cannot take lightly. On the way down we encountered a rattlesnake that refused to get out of the way. So keep an eye out!!
There are definitely a lot of bugs on this trail. And I could have sworn the same one followed me for miles just buzzing in my ear. I think next year my goal will be to finish ALL of the San Diego hikes first. No need to save these for the hot summer months.
The funny part is that even with the exhaustion and the issues with the heat, my moving time according to Strava was pretty good! Ciao for now, I have two more peaks left and the 18 Pack for 2020 will be history.
