I thought I could get a quiet, uncrowded morning on trail by heading out there while Saturday's rain was still clearing—accurate.
I thought the clouds would clear up by the time I got to the summit—NOPE.
While still a great little hike, I was definitely inside a cloud the majority of the time. The fog made for some pretty scenes in the groves of trees and an unnerving feeling in the open areas!
The trail was soft and a bit muddy, even slightly flooded in a few places, from the rain. I saw birds bathing in the puddles, and the manzanita were flowering! When I got down below the cloud on my way back to my car, I was able to see the idyllic farmland to the south and west of the mountain.
I followed Scott Turner's recommendation on Modern Hiker and took the fire road on the way up to get the climb out of the way, then took the pleasantly wooded and meandering Five Oaks Trail on the way down.
