We had a perfect hiking day – the weather was sunny and warm (but not too warm) at the start of the trail. We took the 5-Oaks Trail up which had beautiful views and lots of switchbacks which made it more fun than going straight up the road. As we came out of some trees onto the final “push” to the summit, it was noticeably windier. We walked to the top of the summit, past the view to the east (Salton Sea, etc.) and took a trail off to the right and found a nice bench to sit down, admire the view and eat a snack. As we started down from the summit, some clouds were coming in and got a bit chilly until we descended a bit more. We took the road back down – not to bad if you stay out of the ruts! Lots of woodpeckers and hawks!
