Started a bit late at 11, but it wasn't too hot. The trail starts with a bit of a long uphill with some snow/ice beginning to melt as of Jan. 3. The uphill eventually gives way to large clearing in which you can see the final hill covered in a small layer of snow, which must have made for good sledding a week ago. After getting to the top you can see where the forest transitions into desert as well as the city of Julian. There's a nice picturesque memorial bench just past the “Air Beacon”, which was an awesome spot for lunch. Very easy hike if not for the ice/snow slush on the uphill.
