Sunny and blue skies all morning for this amazing hike.  We hiked along Volcan Mountain Trail up to Five Oaks Trail.  We took Five Oaks Trail up to the peak.  We then returned back to the road via Volcan Mountain Trail.   The trails along our entire route were in great condition.  I am glad we decided to take Five Oaks Trail on the way up.  It was so beautiful walking on this single track trail under the cover of oaks and large manzanita.   We saw a deer along the trail…that is always a treat!  After reaching the top of Five Oaks Trail, we came out into the open with stunning grasslands.   The Volcan Mountain Trail is a nice wide trail with great views, open expanses, and some very mature trees.  There were a few places to stop and read about the various mountains in the distance.  Near the top there is a gorgeous wood bench that you can sit on and take in some views.  Behind the bench was a stand of oaks.  At the peak there were views out to the desert.  There was also a  rock/mosaic table of sorts with inspirational quotes near the top.  This was not a particularly difficult or long hike, but it was definitely one with amazing views.  Great places just down the road from the trailhead to stop for cider and pie.
