After hiking Mt Woodson we spent the night camping at William Heise County Park just outside of Julian. The campground itself is was very nice and well maintained. The weather was less then ideal for a night of camping, as it was windy, got down into the 30s and ended up raining most of the early morning. But after a breakfast sandwich with a homemade buttermilk biscuit we were ready to conquer Volcan Mountain.
The trail wasn't too bad and only had a few muddy spots along the way. The skies had also cleared up for the most part and we had some really good views of Anza Borrago and the Salton Sea. However, over the last .5 mile the winds really picked up making our stop at the summit very brief.
An overall fun hike, especially since we were able to get a slice of Julian apple pie as a reward.
