Got to the trail at 8AM and only a few cars were parked. Started the hike with my two hiking partners Rayder (6 months old) and Max (2 years old). The bottom of Volcan Mountain trail was in good condition and dry. As we moved up the trail the trail became frozen ground with some broken snow and ice. There was a fallen large tree in the trail that we had to scramble through. As we continued the trail became steeper and more snow with ice. Towards the top of the trail before the peak there was more frozen snow. At the peak the views were awesome. As we started our descent the ground started to warm up and the conditions became muddy. We decided to take 5 Oaks Trail down the mountain to avoid the snow and mud. The trail was a great single track with a zigzag course which was great to walk down. Towards the bottom of 5 Oaks there was a fallen tree that we have to scramble through but much smaller than we had on the main trail. 5 Oaks trail was quite dry. Once we got to the main trail there were a few small groups heading up the trail and when we got to our vehicle there were about 20+ cars parked with several groups getting ready to head up. The hike was great and my first San Diego Peak was captured with the assistance of Rayder and Max.
