This is my 2nd time up this peak.  I was the first one to arrive with my wife for this hike right around sunrise.  It was a warm and humid day already.  Started at 620 AM.  It was already in the 70's.  There are two porta potties here that are clean.    The hike is pretty easy.  There are two trails you can take up that will merge after about 1.2 miles.  One is for hikers only and the other is for hikers, mountain bikers, or horses.  I did a loop up the Five Oaks Trail single use trail and down the wider dirt trail on the way down.  Saw some helicopters dropping off stuff near the summit.  Some workers were also at the summit.  Found the Volcan Mtn marker behind the trees.  It was a nice easy hike.  Took about two hours roundtrip.  5.4 miles or so with about 1300 elevation gain.  Stopped off in Julian at the Julian Pie Company for some hot pecan pie with ice cream and also took a sample of each cookie (Yum!)  and a couple of wonder bars for the road (Peanut Butter and Chocolate bars :).  Also decided to stop off at Viejas for some shopping at Nike (Yay! More outdoor hiking and running clothes for us) and more steps for my daily total since the hike was relatively short.
