Well, according to my Garmin fenix my training readiness was a 1/100. A perfect way to start off my six-peak challenge.
This hike taught me the following:
- Bring an extra pair of socks. Or for goodness sakes, make sure the socks you have don't slip down pass your ankles.
- Strength training beforehand which could have prevented the wobbly legs on the way down.
- Eat your celebratory food at the rest stop 1.5 miles from summit. The temps are pleasant , and it fuels the last third of your ascent. The chilled air at the top makes for a quick summit.
- Ask your stronger partner to fetch the car at the end of the hike. I estimate my partner could have completed the hike an hour and a half quicker than our time. When we were about a mile out, he agreed to hike ahead, grab the car, and pick me up at the trailhead. Love
- Remember that I chose this. Very key for me to keep in mind when I'm exhausted, wondering why the f I'm doing this, and about to get pissed off at my partner. I chose this and ultimately grateful I am still able bodied (barely) to summit Mt Wilson.
