A beautiful day for a hike! Started hiking just about 7am and made it back to the car about 10:50am (time included a slight accidental detour). Definitely started getting hot around 930am, but nothing unbearable with enough water and sunscreen/protective clothing. My boyfriend did this as our first hike to prepare for our Mt Whitney attempt in October of this year. I have a lot of experience with hiking but he is a bit newer to the game; we both were able to handle this like champs.
One or two false summits definitely start to mess with you on the way out to the peak, but if you can push through the small mental hurdle it's worth it to get to the top. Great views of Los Angeles out in the distance and rolling hills/mountains out the back.
Day after hike we are feeling a little sore but nothing keeping us from an active, normal day. No blisters or sunburns either.
Definitely recommend this hike, it was a fun first one. Recommend hiking poles for a couple of steep segments with loose ground.
Keep an eye out for wildlife–mostly reptiles and bugs. Saw a striped racer (nonvenomous snake) probably about 4 feet long and a whiptail (large lizard). Didn't see any rattlesnakes this day but anything is possible so just make sure you are aware of your surroundings 🙂
